The pricing for bespoke prints is based on time I spend preparing the illustration. I can either customise cars you may have seen in my shop or Instagram, or create a bespoke illustration of your car from scratch.
Small projects - ones involving little adjustment like color changes, etc. on already existing illustrations start at 149 Eur. Pricing then depends on the amount of work required.
Large projects - ones that require illustrating a car from scratch can be anywhere from 500-1000 Eur. The price involves hours of thorough research for resource photographs and days of work on the actual illustration. To give you an idea, a simple and common car like an early 911 can take 25+ hours to create, while a more complex, modern one, say a LaFerrari, can take 40+ hours to finish.
Final price is always discussed upfront with customer upon seeing photographs or reviewing provided specifications.
I do these on the side only and found it's best for me to write down everyone on a waitlist, without any deposits and get back to you as soon as I can to check if we’re still on track.
Please beware though - the waitlist itself is long, and it's not uncommon that it's going to take a few months to get to the illustration.
how does it work?
Once we get to it, the process is fairly straight forward. We start with locking down the specs of the desired car and being provided high quality resource photographs helps here.
I then start with my own research and working on the actual illustration, sending you previews along the way and asking for your feedback. It‘s important that you‘re happy with the details as you know your car best.
Once the final preview and print file has been approved we lock in the delivery address, payment and the print is soon on it's way to you!

the bespoke plaque
Each bespoke print comes with an optional sticker resembling a VIN plaque with hand written information about the print. It's placed, out of the sight, to the back side of the print.
Our prints are designed to be very easy to frame with off-the-shelf frames available worldwide.
My personal favorite are the IKEA frames (Ribba and Stromby) due to their consistent quality, affordability and availability around the world.
The print's size details are displayed under each individual product so you can purchase the proper frame.
Framing instructions and details about how to care for your print can be found here.
Here at Petrolified, we strive for each of our prints to match the quality of the cars we depict.
After many years of trying (and failing) to have my artworks printed at the quality I've aimed for, I've decided to invest in being able to print these in house. All prints are now so called "Giclée" printed on a large-format Epson printer. The printer utilizes 9 different inks, accounting for better reproduction of colors and gradients and has four times the print resolution you'd find at a regular, magazine-type print.
Picking the right paper was a story of it's own... Combining best of all worlds the print industry has to offer is this satin-finished Pearl paper by Hahnemühle. It produces great, rich colors with beautiful contrasts, the details are sharp and the surface has just the right amount of shine.
This is the type of print you’d find used for museum-grade work and it should without breaking a sweat last 50 to 100 years.
The most essential part of owning any artwork is obviously having it framed. I know what a hassle that can be and that's why our print's formats are designed as ready to frame with off-the-shelf frames available worldwide.
My personal favorite are the IKEA STRÖMBY frames. With their minimal look they don't distract from the artwork itself, are of great quality, affordable and available around the world. Seriously, you'll have to see to believe how much an artwork looks framed. That said, if you aim for the highest standard, I'd suggest looking at bespoke framing services.
The print's size details are displayed under each individual product so you can purchase the proper frame right away.
More details regarding framing, a how-to guide and several mock ups can be found here.
Petrolified goes above and beyond to ensure that your prints arrive to you in pristine condition.
First, each of our prints are carefully inspected before shipment and carefully packaged between two sheets of protective paper.
The print is then shipped in a sturdy cardboard tube to protect your artwork from any bending or curling. The tube is sealed by aluminum discs on both ends.
This ensures that your print looks great after making the long trip to your doorstep.
